Overview
South Devon College is a further education college with a mission is to ‘inspire our community through learning for all’. The college has achieved an “outstanding” Ofsted rating, is a Beacon site for teaching and learning and their learner views rank the highest in the South West. The college provides further education; higher education from entry level right through to foundation degree and is committed to providing inspirational teaching and learning and to meeting the learners’ needs. Our mission focuses on our role as a comprehensive general further education college delivering high quality teaching and learning to its community, raising aspiration and delivering outstanding education and training with a responsibility to all sectors of our community. With around 13,000 students and 700 staff, the College offers Part time and full time learning, adult community learning and a full service for businesses including short courses and apprenticeships. The range of learning includes: art, craft, music, design, performing arts, music, sports, public services, catering, hospitality, teacher training, health and social care, mechanical and electrical engineering, hairdressing, beauty, construction, sustainable construction, renewable technologies, automotive, business, general education, computing, finance, animal care, environmental and land based studies. In addition South Devon College's South West Energy Centre is bespoke energy and training solutions centre in South Devon Launched in September 2013, the South West Energy Centre is the catalyst for rapid growth in the green sector throughout the local area and beyond. The Centre is a high profile, inspirational skills and business development institution that will shape the future of the South West. Working in partnership with multinational organisations, the South West Energy Centre offers a range of invaluable services. This includes helping businesses diversify into environmental areas, developing and identifying new markets for energy related technologies and facilitating businesses to save energy whilst cutting costs. One of the main focuses of the South West Energy Centre is to train and develop the skilled workforce that green technologies necessitate. With renewable technologies set to grow exponentially in the next decade, many businesses are keen to employ staff with essential skills in installing, maintaining and supplying energy saving solutions. The centre features a biomass boiler, thermal cooling, solar photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal panels, amongst various other low energy systems, all of which are expected to play an essential role in reducing this country’s energy consumption and emissions. By working closely with local and national businesses, the South West Energy Centre can help develop excellent employment pathways for early adopters of green technology skills.
